Have you ever wondered, why did I choose that peculiar name, “Energy Spirituality”? In today’s article I’ll share my recent-and-unexpected Aha! Regarding the field I’ve brought into the world from 1986 through 2025 . . . and continuing.
Finally The Name “Energy Spirituality” Makes Sense to Me
To the founder of this rapidly growing field, that is! Finally, that name makes sense to me. You might well wonder:
What was I thinking, using this name for the field I’ve founded? Partly I understood. Yet, in hindsight, I didn’t understand what that name meant. Not really.
Thanks to that recent Aha! I understand that name much better. Today I’m going to share that story with you. Not only so you can enjoy this story as a story. There can be practical relevance to your life if:

An Unfolding Tale Begins Here
Use your time travel machine, if you have one. Otherwise, simply use your imagination.
The year was 1999. I received a unique fan letter in the mail.
Actually, the “letter” was a postcard. Never before had I heard of the writer, Donna Eden. Many people did know of her, just not me, at the time.
Turned out, Donna got a copy of “Aura Reading Through All Your Senses” when it became a book club selection. You see, the One Spirit Book Club used to be a division of The Book of the Month Club. One Spirit selected two of my how-to books. This one was my third book club selection to date.
Turned out, Donna Eden read it. She loved it. In fact, she even quoted it in her new book, “Energy Medicine.” Donna wanted to let me know.

Initially, Why I Chose the Name “Energy Spirituality”
Once upon a time, talking with Donna Eden, I asked what she thought of this sequence of naming:
- She had brought the world Energy Medicine.
- Her husband, psychologist David Feinstein, brought the world Energy Psychology. That was his branding of Emotional Freedom Technique. EFT was gaining popularity at the time.
- What did she think of my naming my field Energy Spirituality?
- I thought of us three as a natural trio. Akin to body-mind-spirit. (Hmm, ever hear of that?)
Donna, in her sweet way, gave her enthusiastic blessing to this naming. Ever since 1986, I’d worked in this field, having tried out different names. Finally, I had found one that stuck.

Well into humanity’s Shift into the Age of Awakening, “Energy Spirituality” worked fine as a name. I used this with clients, in over 1,000 media interviews, and for publishers of foreign editions of my books.
Energy Spirituality — The Official Definition
After the Shift into the Age of Awakening, how did I introduce newbies to Energy Spirituality?
Energy Spirituality helps people like you to grow, emotionally and spiritually. Using skills that work now, in the Age of Awakening.
Granted, some of you readers right now . . . may not be familiar with what that means, the Age of Awakening. Well, I’ve just linked you to an article that can bring you clarity. Including how you can separate MYTH from TRUTH about what it really means, living in the Age of Awakening.
Another way to put this is: The second consciousness era on Earth has begun.
The Second Consciousness Era on Earth?
It’s new and it’s NOW. Having started 12 years ago, on Dec. 21, 2012.
A big deal, although there no flashing signs have pointed the way. I’m one of the spiritual teachers of this time. All of us, I suspect, are helping people to understand that the Age of Awakening isn’t dramatically different in terms of outer drama. Nonetheless, this era is so significant.

What Else Can “Energy Spirituality” Mean?
This is it. How my understanding spontaneously upgraded recently. One minute, I was cocreating something new, writing a blogpost. Next minute, gently and sweetly, I realized something absolutely new:
Energy Spirituality means spirituality for this Age of Awakening.
You see, this new kind of spirituality includes energy awareness. You can do that, right. But did your parents or grandparents or great grands perceive energy?
Not mine. How about yours? Did they hang out, worrying about black auras and conjecturing about red auras? Do tell! The more comments, the weirder the comments, the merrier.
In the Age of Awakening, Energy Sensitivity Is NORMAL
Does that mean we must study psychic development? Hardly. Energy sensitivity is normal for all humans who live now. And we’re just getting started at finding how we can use this to solve our pesky human problems.
All of us are capable of living with energy sensitivity. Unlike during the previous age, the Age of Faith. Back then, what was the best that spiritual seekers could do for reading energy?
Time for a survey, folks.

Let’s Explore What It Means to Access Info about Energy
Doing this well means reading auras — the energies around human beings. During the Age of Faith, how well did people read auras? In hindsight, not very well. At least, not compared with what we can do now.
- It was a big deal when humans discovered Stage 1 Energetic Literacy. Vibing people out. Certain leaders, like medicine men and shamanic healers, living 10,000 years ago. They depended on good vibes and bad vibes.
- This began happening quite universally during the leadup to the Shift.
- By now, everybody who wishes to be energy sensitive can be energy sensitive.
- The video at the previous link (about Stage 1 Energetic Literacy) can open your eyes to the beauty, and also the limitations, of this beginner’s kind of energy reading.
In general, the less skill folks have at reading energies, the prouder they feel about it. In my experience, nobody has more pride over their energy sensitivity than folks with Stage 1 Energetic Literacy. Ever notice that? Stories, anyone?
The Best Aura Reading Possible . . . During the Age of Faith
Although crude and limited by today’s standards, some Age of Faith-ers learned extra skills. Amounting to Stage 2 Energetic Literacy. If you’ve ever had a “chakra reading,” you can appreciate what a breakthrough that was, compared with Stage 1.
All the emphasis was on seeing — a very literal kind of subtle perception. As though seeing is believing. Supposedly, clairvoyance matters.
When seeing was all that mattered, countless people worked diligently at practicing The Squint. When they could finally see something, they felt so proud! As if admitted to the group of Spiritually Cool People.

- Also including if you’re devoutly religious but also spiritual. So you’re willing to learn discoveries that couldn’t be made until the Age of Awakening. No matter how much you prefer to follow the teachings of Jesus or Buddha.
Whatever you do that’s spiritual and/or religious, guess what? You’ll do it better with today’s upgrades — both skills and knowledge — knowledge that brings energy and Divine Cocreation into your personal mix.
Whatever your path, please know that Energy Spirituality is NO THREAT to your personal path. I do not offer a path but a way for you to make your current religious or spiritual path work better.

Once you gain an appreciation for innocence, you can appreciate stories of very human leaders, whose greatest strength may be our innocence.
In Conclusion

During that time, all I was capable of understanding had lower truth value than what I’m capable of understanding now.
